Laws

In the UK, it is a criminal offence to drive a car on public roads unless you have a valid car insurance certificate. If you have not yet received your certificate, you should at least try to get a cover note till it comes through.
The certificate should have your name on it, together with together with the registration number of your car. It will also include the spec. of the car together with start date and expiry date. It may also include the names of others allowed to drive your car. It will also include any limitations that apply.
Limitations normally include the age, physical condition, mental condition, condition of the vehicle and the number of people to be carried in the vehicle. If the person that is insured turns out to be a worse risk than the insurer anticipated, it cannot escape the responsibility. This protects any innocent victims of accidents.
